Juan Solanas + Paula Moore

Juan Solanas Born in 1966 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 1976 he escaped with his family from the Argentine dictatorship. He arrived in France at the age of ten and lived in Paris for 37 years. When he was very young he discovered photography and cinema through his father, Fernando Pino Solanas, a filmmaker. He studied philosophy and art history at the Sorbonne. In 2000 he wrote, produced and directed his first short film: EL HOMBRE SIN CABEZA. In 2003, it unanimously received the Cannes Jury Prize. In 2004, it received the French César award for the best short film, and fifty awards across the world, becoming one of the most awarded shorts in history. In 2005 he wrote, produced and directed his first feature film NORDESTE, Un Certain Regard, at Cannes 2005. It received the Best Film Award and the Best Actress Award at the Stockholm Film Festival 2005 as well as the Roque Dalton Award, in the 2005 Havana Festival, and the Clarin Award for Best Photography in 2006. In 2012, his latest feature film, UPSIDE DOWN, a fiction he wrote and directed, was released. International co-production premiered in 70 countries, with Kirsten Dunst and Jim Sturgess. He is currently preparing his third film «Luz» an adaptation of Elsa Osorio’s book «A veinte años Luz». In 2013 he decided to return to the Rio de La Plata and settled in Montevideo. Part of the reason for that return was to devote time to a more fundamental artistic search, far from the industrial reality of the Cinema. Since then he is working on the Video Facilities Series “Gauchologias.”

Paula Moore Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she lived until 2000. She studied classical piano with Perla Gonilsky for 5 years and musical composition with Marcelo Ferreira. She worked as a professional keyboardist in rock groups for several years. She has also worked in fashion and cinema since 1994, as an art director and fashion shoot producer for popular magazines: Viva de Clarin, Rolling Stone and Cosmopolitan, among others. Advises and creates catalogs for multiple clothing brands. Moore has also designed costumes for feature films featuring Gustavo Cerati, Vicentico and Valeria Bertucelli. She is a costume consultant to stars such as Mariana Fabbiani and across the TV broadcasts of the Gaston Portal production company. While she lived in Paris, she works as a producer of fashion photos in the French magazines Version Femina, Icon and Dealer de Luxe, and produced fashion shows for L’Oreal and catalogs for various brands. She has designed costumes for international feature films with actresses like Carole Bouquet and Kirsten Dunst. She also collaborates in video clips of Gotan Project, Dolly and Cristophe Mae, among others. She graduated from Paris 8 University with a Master 2 diploma in Contemporary Art and New Media. She also studied electro-acoustic music at the Conservatoire du XX Arrondissement de Paris. She has been living in Montevideo since 2013, where she worked as the Chief Producer of Fashion and Objects photos in Bla magazine between 2015 and 2017. In 2017 she was the music and sound designer for Juan Solanas’ video installations.
