SER LIBRE

This installation of the artist video “I am also smoke” inside a vintage gaucho carriage serves as an exploration of exile, memory, and liberation. The work features the experience of the artist’s father’s first cigarette on European soil after fleeing Argentina with his family following the 1976 military coup. In this way, Lagomarsino connects this personal narrative of displacement and survival to a larger question of migration, and draws a parallel to Éxodo del Pueblo Oriental, the mass migration more than 200 years earlier. The title SER LIBRE its a frottage of the monument Éxodo del Pueblo Orienta, by Heber Ramos Paz.
